Gregory Maassen: using Joomla for simple publishing and document downloads

Though it may not win any awards for innovative design, development consultant and Rotterdam School of Management professor Gregory Maassen's personal website is an excellent example of how Joomla provides a ton of accessible functionality.
developmentwork.net was built in Joomla 1.5x with a suite of free/Open Source extensions by Gregory himself. As its main function was to serve as a repository for his publications, docman served well in easily creating an interface for organising file downloads and offering them up within articles as referenced links.
Some info about the site from Gregory's write-up on the Joomla forums:
It serves as an archive and introduction to my academic publications, and management experience with business development and judicial reform projects, legislative initiatives and educational programs in developing countries such as Afghanistan, Macedonia and Armenia.
The audience of the site is relatively limited:
- Students and other course participants who like to download materials;
- Other professionals who work in developing countries who may want to read some of my work and/or get inspiration to set up their own sites for their projects; and showcase what is possible with Joomla.
Its definately worth checking out the site and referring to his post on the forums describing the process by which he came to the right mix of extensions to create this site.

http://www.juma.ca
The latest Joomla-powered site created by Design Guru (http://www.designguru.org), this new juma.ca is clean and spacious.
The site's design simply relates its function; to give a voice to the label's designers through their blog (called 'reflections') and showcase the product line through an on-site gallery, whilst relating the usual identity-related copy.
Comments from Designguru:
"Creating a bespoke aesthetic for fashion designer label Juma meant employing simple design and making Joomla as easy to use as possible. We used a concept of 'dark light' to employ shadows through the site and varying opacity to simulate layered depth throughout."

This excellent personal website really exemplifies how Joomla can work as an easy publishing platform and not be restricted aesthetically to a standard 3-column geeky interface.
Lots of white space is calming and Iztok KlanÄar, a photographer , writer and web designer, has done a really nice job of keeping it simple - not trying to load up the site with extensions and instead make the basics work smoothly.

Aurum3 is a Brisbane, Austrailia-based web production firm that uses Joomla on their corporate website as well as a few sub-domains they explore hobbies through - such as movies and new technology .
Aurum3's experience in 'identity' and 'branding' shines through on these sites - they've really made a good example of how you can easily pretty-up Joomla, without the use of silicone [ahem].
Their corporate and hobby sites feature distinct aesthetics but all exhibit Joomla's stock content display functionality - such as category listing and basic contact management .

JoomlaFeed.com is a new site that aggregates news and information posted across the Joomlasphere in one single, easy-to-read place (with a lovely web 2.0 style template to boot!)
Currently, the site organises feeds by news, blogs, software, templates and employment. If you publish anything to do with Joomla that fits into those categories you can submit your own feed to the site to be included and reposted there!
In addition to republishing RSS feeds, JoomlaFeed also welcomes direct content submissions - so if you have any Joomla news, you can have your say by filling in a form on the site .
