comparing drupal to joomla Print E-mail
Tuesday, 05 December 2006

No matter how dedicated to Joomla you are, I bet you're constantly peeking at other Open Source CMS' to see what else is going on out there and pick up tips and inspiration for your own projects.

I mentioned Drupal a couple of posts ago as an alternative CMS to Joomla - it has its own strengths that make it an option for certain projects we develop @ designguru , yet it also has setbacks which make Joomla a more favourable option.

Asides from visiting drupal.org - the official project site, its worth checking out this little chart I found via JoomlaFeed comparing the two over on Alledia's blog ...

Exploring the world of Drupal...
written by designguru, December 10, 2006

Since I posted this on Tuesday I've been further exploring the wonderful world of Drupal - both the current stable release (4.7.4) and the brand spankin new Beta2 release of 5.0 (which has some nice AJAX bells and whistles plus cleaner admin interface)... and well, what can I say, I love it!! Given that since Design Guru was incepted over a year ago, we've made a commitment to exploring Joomla to the fullest, its really exciting to be able to stack it up to another amazing CMS and I'm sure other community members would love more info on how they are distinct. The more I delve into Drupal the more I realize how the two CMS' are both fantastic and better suited for different applications - and have decided to create a new blog category here on Why Joomla? that will explore this issue more in-depth: look out for it starting Monday! smilies/wink.gif

Lead on, Qasim!

Sometimes we think of ourselves as being a community only within Joomla!, but we are a part of a much larger, far more important effort underway to free software and knowledge for the world's people. Understanding the strengths and opportunities of each of these amazing projects is only going to bring good things. Lead on, Qasim!

Drupal's difference offering...

I don't know why it took me so long to find this in the Drupal Handbook, but there's a nice little comparison featuring terminology that might help people over @ drupal.org...

That is a helpful link!

Thanks for that link. Nomenclature is always a pain -- this link provides a bridge to understanding from the Joomla! perspective. I ordered Robert Douglass's book. Looks like Drupal 5.0 is nearing release - there are three critical errors listed on the RC.
