Blogs are great tools for quickly publishing snippets information.  Everyone from children to small businesses love them and even large corporates have adopted an emotional relationship to this new catch-word; 'blog.'

What I find pretty funny though is that in the recent rush to get blogging, a lot of people have jumped into platforms like blogger or wordpress without considering scalability.  Now, that's not to denounce the merits of blogging or using a hosted blog service but I think that blogging should just be an aspect of commercial, as well as personal, online presence.

In this series of posts, I'll be examining Joomla as a next-level platform for blogging - that extends the simple function of quick-publishing by allowing articles to be longer and inter-related whilst offering the ability to plug-in additional site features and functions as needs of a website grow beyond verbal diarrhea.

I highly recommend checking out those links just posted by the person @ Compass - they've written up a great detail on what extensions you need to get blogging with a Joomla site and then go on to explain why they took this approach to build their own site, which is cool cause PART2 of this topic will start framing Joomla re: the 'future of blogging' (both practically and philosophically)

To quote the Compass Designs page -

"Right now, there is no robust and feature rich blog extension for Joomla that will fufill the core features that is needed in a blog, and does it as a native (not a port) extension."

My rant - it is completely redundant to install a blog component on Joomla as they are essentially doing the same thing. Also Compass Designs, if you are going to link to your own blog postings/link bait have the common sense not to use your own URL in your title as it is a dead giveaway that you are self promoting and trying to be discrete about it by having a deceptive title - I'm not saying your information isn't useful, just that it would be better to say 'We have wirtten up an explanation of the best Joomla blogging practices on our site [link]'

Many people have said this on the Joomla forums and I will repeat it - why do you need a blogging component for a content management system? Isn't the whole purpose of a content management system to aid the pr...
